How To Conserve Your Swimming Pool Water
How To Conserve Your Swimming Pool Water
Having your own swimming pool is like having a little slice of heaven in your backyard in the Arizona heat.
In the Phoenix climate, it’s important to know how to conserve water in a swimming pool to save yourself time and money. At Innovative Pool Systems, we believe swimming pool water conservation is extremely important, and we want to share a few tips with you!
While our experts love making connections with you and servicing your pool, we want to equip you with the necessary knowledge to help you get the most out of your swimming pool.
Check for Leaks
The first thing to look for regarding swimming pool water conservation is leaks in the pool. Large cracks in the concrete or pool wall will be a tell-tale sign that you have a leak, but leaks can happen from other areas as well.
Look for any leaks in the pipes or pumping system. Even a slow drip coming from one of the pump connectors can lead to expensive leaks.
Small drips add up fast and could end up costing you hundreds of dollars. If you notice any leaks or drips in the system or cracks in the swimming pool, we’d love to come out and
address the problem.
Keep an Eye on Water Levels After Water Activities
It’s inevitable; water will get splashed out while you and the kiddos are having fun in the pool. It’s completely normal, but it’s still important to keep an eye on water levels.
The easiest way to check water levels is using the skimmer as a reference. The skimmer is an important part of the system and needs water flowing into it.
If your water level is below the opening for the skimmer, it’s too low. Ideally, you want the water level to be halfway up the skimmer. If it’s below the skimmer entirely, it’s time to add water.
Stop Evaporation
Evaporation is the main reason the water levels drop in your swimming pool. Evaporation occurs whenever the water is exposed to wind and air, but it happens more often if you have a heated pool.
Since the water temperature is warmer than the air on a chilly night, the top layer of water turns into a mist, causing water levels to drop.
To avoid this from happening at exponential rates, you can buy a pool cover and keep it over your swimming pool on cold or windy nights.
Another way to help with swimming pool water conservation is by turning off water features at night or when the pool is not in use.
Water features are a beautiful addition to the pool, but a lot of water is lost as mist or spray, which decreases your water levels.
Pay Attention When Backwashing
Backwashing is an important filter cleaning process that pushes out large debris that gets backed up in your filter over time. Pay attention to this process to ensure you’re not consistently seeing large debris in the filter.
Backwashing should be done with your regularly scheduled maintenance or after a big storm since there’s an increased chance of finding large debris in the filter after heavy winds.
