  • What Are the Types of Pool Lights?

There are different types of pool lights that you can choose from. Some of these options are incandescent, LED, and halogen lights. Each of these lights has their pros and cons, so you need to weigh out your options and figure out what works best for your household before you make your purchase. At Innovative Pool Systems, we like to provide our clients with many different options – this way you get the freedom and variety to make the best choice for your pool.

  • Are LED Pool Lights Worth It?

LED pool lights are a popular choice due to the range of colours offered, making it a good investment. They are also energy saving, compared to other pool lights. These types of lights let you save up to 50% more energy and are cost-effective when compared to other types of lighting. If you’re interested in going green, then these lights are a great option for you.

While they may cost more initially at the time of purchase, these lights have long-term benefits that are worthwhile. LED lights are durable and long-lasting when compared to other pool lights.

  • Are Pool Lights Expensive to Run?

The cost of running a pool light will differ depending on the type of light you have installed. Generally, the amount of electricity that the light may use varies according to its wattage.

Halogen and incandescent light bulbs are more affordable lighting options from the date of purchase. However, LED lighting is the best choice when it comes to lifetime cost and energy efficiency.

LED pool lights have expensive upfront costs, but you can end up saving money in the long run because the cost to run them is much lower, as compared to other types of lighting. If you are looking for a lighting option that will provide you with long-term savings, LED pool lighting is the best choice.

  • Do Pool Lights Burn Out?

Yes, pool lights can burn out just like any other light. The good news is that they can just as easily be replaced. You can do the replacement by yourself. Depending on your needs, it may be best to hire the services of a professional to change the light, especially if you are not familiar with the process.

Be considerate of the fact that dealing with wiring and electricity can be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.

Please, do not hesitate to contact us with any other questions you may have.

  • Incandescent Lights

Incandescent lights are the most affordable option for lighting an inground pool. These lights emit a yellow shade of light. This is an important aspect to consider depending on what type of aesthetic you’re going for. Due to the shade of the bulb, the colour of the pool can emit greenish tones when you have incandescent lightbulbs. To maintain these lightbulbs, they must be changed at least two times a year if they are being used quite often. For this reason, maintaining an incandescent pool light can end up being expensive.

  • LED Pool Lights

LED lights are considered the most popular lighting option for swimming pools. This is because LED lights can be used for both in-ground and above-ground pools. LED lights are also available in a wide range of colours. These lights are very bright, and you may only need a few light bulbs to have adequate lighting for your pool. Of course, this is dependent on the size of your pool and the results you wish to achieve.

LED lights create a luxurious ambiance for your garden.

  • Halogen Lights

These types of pool lights can also be installed in either in-ground and above-ground pools. If you’re looking to light up your pool for many hours, then halogen pool lights are a great option. Halogen light bulbs are easier to change than LED light bulbs – so if you’re looking for a lower maintenance type of pool light, this may be the one for you.  Halogen light bulbs have limited colour options; you can opt for yellow or blue bulbs. The limited colour options may be a drawback, especially if you want to create a different ambiance for your pool depending on your mood.

  • Control your pool lights

The majority of swimming pool lights can be turned on and off by a wall switch. If it is more convenient for you, this can be incorporated into a control box that is turned on and off automatically.

Newer LED, colour-changing lights deliver a great ambiance to your outdoor oasis. There are several options for changing the colour and lights. If you opt not to have your lights linked to a control box, these different options for LED lights can be selected by switching the wall switch on and off until you reach the colour or program you desire.

  • Benefits of LED lights

When you incorporate LED lighting in your custom pool lighting design with us, you can enjoy and come to realize the number of benefits this form of lighting has over traditional incandescent bulbs. Some of these benefits can include:

    • Brighter lights
    • Longer-lasting light
    • Improved energy efficiency
    • More aesthetically pleasing light without a yellow cast
    • Bulbs that are much cooler to the touch
    • Bulbs that are less labour-intensive to replace
    • Better penetration of light through the pool water
    • A wide spectrum of rich and vibrant colour options

Pool Light Installation

Create a sincere, inviting ambiance by installing custom pool lighting. Enjoy breath-taking light shows, or a soft-glowing setting to set the mood. Swimming after dark can be a relaxing experience. At Innovative Pool Systems, we want you to feel luxurious inside your newly renovated swimming pool.

  • When Can the Pool Light Be Installed?

The pool light is ready to be installed once the pool has been dug out and the pool walls have been created. There is a special wall panel that has a hole cut-out. This is where the pool light panel is inserted, deep into the center wall of the pool (wherever the light placement is decided during the custom design curation). The pool light that fits inside of the panel is installed during the filling of the pool.

Our builders will ensure you are informed of every step of the process and are satisfied with the results.

  • What Happens With the Electrical Circuits?

At Innovative Pool Systems, we always follow guidelines for the safe installation of all pool lights. After excavating and setting up the area your pool is being created, your team of contractors will ground the pool light, to protect against any stray voltages. This ensures no wires are left uncovered. Inside the pool’s panels, there is a grounding connector, which has a bare copper wire connecting to it, that goes around the entire pool to connect all of the lights.

  • How Is the Pool Light Installed?

When it comes time to install the pool light, your contractor will wire and install the light. To do so, the pool must be at least half full of water (the water level must be up to the bottom of the light port). The light is installed by floating the light in the shallow end and walking the other end of the cord to the deep end. The light is then tied and taped to a wire that is pushed from the junction box into the panel. Then the light is fished between these two and pulled inside.

  • Can I Add More Than One Light? Or Use LED Colour Pool Lights?

Yes, you can do either. For a larger swimming pool, you can add lights at each end, or two lights on the sides. LED lights can set the mood and tone for your outdoor yard – you can create a relaxing and tranquil ambiance with colourful LED lights. Whether you get incandescent lights or colourful LED lights to create your relaxing space, at Innovative Pool Systems we are here to help. What you decide to choose is all dependent on what you’re looking to achieve with your personal aesthetic.

  • How Many Lights Should I Put in My Pool?

This depends on your own taste and how you want to use the pool. If you only plan on doing minimal lights, one or two strategically placed lights for maximum visibility is a good option. If you plan on using the underwater pool lights for both visibility and aesthetic decoration, you could add several lights for a unique effect. This really depends on the look you’re going for and how you choose to use your pool – if you will mostly swim during the day, maybe fewer strategically placed lights would be a better fit for you.
